NOX is open-source chat software you (or someone in your community) runs on hardware they control. By using NOX, you agree to these terms. The instance operator may add their own house rules on top.
2. Acceptable use
Don't use NOX to:
- Harass, threaten, or stalk other users
- Distribute illegal content (CSAM, malware, stolen credentials)
- Send spam or commercial bulk messages
- Attempt to break, exploit, or take down the host server
- Impersonate another user with intent to deceive
Server owners may kick or ban members at their discretion. Repeat offenders across many instances may have their accounts removed by the instance operator.
3. Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your password and recovery phrase safe.
- You may not share your account credentials.
- You may delete your account at any time from
Settings → My Account.
4. Your content
You retain ownership of every message and file you send. By sending it, you grant the instance operator a license to store and route it for the purpose of delivering it to its recipients. You may delete your own content at any time.
5. Operator responsibility
The instance operator is responsible for:
- Securing the host machine and the SQLite database
- Backing up data
- Moderating the community
- Ensuring the instance complies with local laws
6. No warranty
NOX is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. The maintainers and operators are not liable for data loss, downtime, or community disputes.
7. Open source
NOX is licensed under the MIT License. You may fork, modify, and self-host. Attribution is appreciated.
8. Changes
These terms may change. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
